–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced chronograph pocket watch, made by Henry Lepaute in Paris, circa 1900. This watch features a crown wind mechanical movement with a lever escapement, a spiral balance, and an advance/delay adjustment ratchet, signed Henry Lepaute on the plates. The white enamel dial is signed and displays Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, an outer railway minute track with 1/5th of a second graduation, a subsidiary seconds dial, a central chronograph seconds hand for the 60 second chronograph function, and gold spade hands for the time. The round 18 carat yellow gold case is fitted with a hinged gold cuvette signed Henry Lepaute, Paris, and engraved with a personal dedication reading Dr Octave Daveau, Paris 1900, suggesting this piece was presented as a distinguished personal gift at the time of the Paris Universal Exhibition. The case back bears initials in relief. The case, cuvette, and movement are signed and numbered.
