A French decorative, engraved and chased verge pocket watch, Oignon, circa 1700.
Brass, fire gilt case with finely engraved and chased ornamental Arabesque décor and large lateral hinge. Brass, fire gilt dial with radial Roman numerals on enamel cartouches, single gilded hand and the centre decorated with chased dragon’s heads and foliage. Full plate movement, keywind, fire gilt and signed, with chain/fusee, Egyptian movement pillars, three-arm brass balance, and large engraved and pierced balance bridge.

Louis Deforges (Deforge) was a clockmaker in Dijon around 1700. He was a business partner of Bouguer, who delivered a gold pocket watch to the city of Dole. Deforges took over the business in 1713 and operated until 1744.
