–
A rare French gilded silver open faced pocket watch with day and night display, made by Breguet in Paris, circa 1800. It has a mechanical key winding movement with a verge escapement, and chain and fusee. The balance cock is beautifully decorated and signed Breguet A Paris on the back plate. The white enamel dial, signed Breguet A Paris, has a unique 24 hour display split into two halves. The upper section shows red Arabic numerals for the day hours, and the lower section shows black Roman numerals for the night hours. There is a winding aperture at 3 o’clock and elegant, ornate gold hands. The timepiece is housed in a gilded silver open faced case with a smooth polished bezel, a long cylindrical pendant, and a sturdy, round suspension bow.
