Gilt brass rhinestone set watch with enamel scene
–
A charming and decorative French gilt brass, enamel and rhinestone set open faced key wind pocket watch made by Nidrever in Paris, circa 1800. The case back in the center features a polychrome enamel miniature painting showing a young man presenting the Statue of Love to a prudish young woman who looks away, frightened by the expectations of this arrogance, the scene decorated with gold and coloured paillons, and both bezels set with rhinestones. White enamel dial with suspended Breguet hour numerals and blued steel moon hands. A gilded brass movement with fusee and chain, verge escapement, gilt brass monometallic balance and blued steel flat hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded continental cock. Signature on the dial and movement.

Regarding the signature of this watch, it should be noted that the name “Nidrever” written backwards becomes “Reverdin”, a very common family name in Geneva. So, probably this watch was made in Geneva.
