–
A small French 18 carat gold and enamel open faced key winding Médaillon à la Breguet type pocket watch, probably made for the Hispanic market, by Pierre-Benjamin Tavernier in Paris, circa 1805. Solid, polished case with a fluted band, the engine turned back decorated with a geometric sunburst motif and a further central white enamel, in black encircled, medallion monogrammed JPB, the rim decorated with a frieze. Gold engine turned face with a small eccentric dial at 6 o’clock featuring Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track and blued steel hands, within a circumferential sector the motto La Mejor es la del olvido de las disgracias (The best hour is the time to forget about the disgraces in English). A gilded brass movement, going barrel, cylinder escapement, monometallic balance, blued steel flat hairspring and polished steel index regulator.
