A French gold, enamel and rose cut diamond set quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1780. Verge escapement, gilt movement bridge pierced and engraved. White enamel dial and pastes between Roman numerals. The back polychrome enamelled scene with two doves. Red translucent enamel with flower decoration and the bezel is set with diamonds. The dial and movement were signed.

Romilly, also known as Honoré Pons-Alexandre Romilly, was a watchmaker in Paris during the late 1800s and early 1900s centuries. He was born in 1758 in the town of Tonbridge, England and received a formal education at a school in Greenwich. Later on, he went to study law at the University of Edinburgh but dropped out to pursue his passion for horology and became known for his exceptional skills and innovations in watchmaking.
