A very fine French gilt, enamel and gemstone-set pair-cased verge pocket watch, circa 1790. Gilt, glazed protective case, the inner case fire gilt, the back with opaque polychrome enamel plaque depicting an amorous couple, bordered by a gemstone-set braid and translucent cobalt blue enamelling against an engine-turned ground, gemstone-set edging and bezel. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, pierced, engraved hands set with gemstones. Gilt frosted full plate movement, key-winding, chain and fusee, solid round movement pillars, blued screws, three-arm brass balance, very finely engraved pierced balance bridge, silver regulator disc. Movement signed.
