A French decorative verge pocket watch with enamel medallion and chatelaine with signet and key, circa 1790.
Brass gilt case, back cover with fine polychrome enamel painting depicting a farewell scene, paillon tendrilled border, engraved bezel, case maker signature Leton, and large lateral hinge. Firegilt chatelaine with repoussé decoration, a gemstone-set signet and key, length 90 mm. Enamel dial with radial Roman numerals and Louis XVI hands. Full plate movement, keywind, fire-gilt, signed, chain/fusee, square baluster pillars, three-arm brass balance, and a fine florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.

Jean-Daniel Bahn, French–Alsatian watchmaker
Jean Daniel Bahn was born on November 20, 1740 to Jean Philippe Bahn and Eve Marguerite Ammel. Jean Daniel married Marguerite Elisabeth Friedel (1748-1814). From this marriage 4 children were born, Marguerite Elisabeth Bahn (1771-1812) who married the goldsmith and jeweller Louis Martin Leysz II. Jean Daniel Bahn II (? -?), Catherine Frédérique Bahn (1778-1820) and Louis Charles Bahn (1779-1818). His shop was at “Marché aux poissons” (fish market) 112.
Jean-Daniel Bahn died on August 18, 1803, 62 years old. He died of a cerebral infarction or cerebral haemorrhage.
