Gilt brass open faced cylinder watch

A very large French, gilt brass inking chronograph, of the new design, with 10 minute register, circa 1852. Sold to Mr Grissot de Passy, on July 17, 1852, for 300 Francs. Cylindrical with screwed bezel, the back with winding aperture. White enamel dial graduated to 60 for the inking chronograph and with an off set subsidiary small dial for the minute’s register. Steel inking hand.

A brass full plate movement with turned pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three arm balance, flat balance spring with a regulator. The inking is hand operated by a button in the band next to the Stop/Start bolt. Dial and case signed.

This counter is a good example of the final development of the inking chronograph as invented by Rieussec in 1821 and perfected by Raton for Breguet in 1823.
