Gold hunting cased chronograph

A large French, 18 carat yellow gold and enamel, hunting cased keyless pocket watch, circa 1890. With gold wheel train, perpetual calendar, chronograph and moon phase.
A matte and polished case, the hinged and sprung front cover with red and blue champlevé enamel monogram. The button in the band at 12 for the start/ stop and return to zero functions of the chronograph. Hinged gold cuvette with engraved dedication, glazed gold rimmed cover over the movement.

White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost fifths of a second division with Arabic five second numerals. Subsidiary dials for the days of the week, the months with leap year indication, the date and the seconds. Aperture for the moon phase with a lunar calendar on the periphery and yellow gold spade hands. Rhodium plated movement, 21 jewels, gold wheel train, counterpoised straight line calibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with temperature and meantime adjustment screws, Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Cuvette signed and numbered.

Bernard Poitevin worked as a Parisian watch and chronometer maker between 1850 and 1890. He founded the company B. Poitevin & V. Lejeune. His shops were located at Rue Richelieu (1850) and Rue Vivienne 22 (1860-1900). Poitevin produced very fine quality watches with complications like repeater watches, chronographs and first-class chronometers with bulletin from the Geneva Observatory.
