There are only very few ladies’ pendants watches with a musical movement of such a small size. This timekeeper is also in exquisite condition and the quality of the enamel painting and the engraved scene on the dial is outstanding.

Joseph Marie Revel, Parisian watchmaker, watch dealer and jeweller.
The Revel company was founded by Joseph Marie Revel in Paris. In 1774 Joseph was based in (Rue) la Fidelite. In 1775 he was named master, and then moved to the Vieille rue du Temple and stayed there until 1783. A little later he was located in the Rue Richelieu, Palais Royal No.118 “Galerie de Valois” until 1790 “Galerie de Pierre” du Palais Egalite, later renamed la rue Egalité around 1800 . From 1804 to 1806 the company was active in the Palais Tribunal, renamed the Palais Royal. Revel bought a medallion watch (A La Breguet) for Breguet at Antiquorum auctions, and a Revel watch made by Urban Jürgensen will be auctioned. You can often find French clocks at various auction houses. In the “Waddesdon Manor” collection there is an original advertising card from Revel, Galerie du Palais Royal. Vieille du Temple. Most of the time the watches are simply signed with “Revel”.

On January 28, 1797, Joseph Revel bought the “Du Trou Moreau” farm in Villepreux, a little west of Versailles. “Du Trou Moreau” dated from 1571 is 148 hectares and was sold for 211,208 livres.
