A large gold verge pocket watch with an enamel painting of exceptional quality made by Amel Fils in Morteau, France, circa 1800. The open faced case of this watch which was crafted from 18 carat gold is jewelled on both sides, the back has very rare polychrome enamel work on a blue enamelled ground, in the center a strongly domed cartouche with a highly refined painted enamel scene depicting an alpine landscape with glacier, a waterfall and in the foreground a village. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track and moon hands. The movement has a verge escapement.
