Flat lépine made by Augustin Merceron
–
A fine, flat lépine in the style of Breguet, made by Augustin Merceron, a student of Breguet, in Angoulême, France, circa 1830. The watch features an open faced 18 carat red gold case with a repetition pusher in the pendant. The case is made in the Breguet style and has a fine “à goutte” quality with an engine turned back. The silver engine-turned dial is adorned with rose gold Breguet hands, adding to the watch’s elegance and sophistication. The movement has a very fine calibre with temperature compensation and parachute and repeating hours and quarters. This level of precision and attention to detail was typical of Breguet and his students, who were known for their dedication to craftsmanship and innovation.
The dust cover of the watch is signed by Augustin Merceron himself, proudly proclaiming him to be an “Elève de Breguet” (a student of Breguet). This serves as a reminder of the rich history and tradition that surrounds this timepiece.
