Complex masterpiece by Edmond Veyret

A complex French graduation piece, masterpiece, in a niello silver case with a full calendar and ornamental niello silver chatelaine with pendant, circa 1910. The watch has an open-face Niello silver case with a picture that can be inserted behind a glass panel while the original photo stays in place. The case also features a pink gold monogram EV and a beautiful floral pattern. The dial is made of enamel and displays Arabic hours, auxiliary seconds, and three subsidiary chapter dials indicating the dates, months, and weekdays. The watch also has a cobalt blue enamelled golden moon phase disc with gold moon and stars, as well as gold Louis XV hands. The watch’s movement is a bridge movement with gilt, wolf teeth winding wheels, a lever escapement, a gold screw compensation balance, a blued balance spring, and a counterpoised lever.

French watchmaker Edmond Veyret was born in 1890 in Vinay. He attended the watch- and clockmaking school Ecole Nationale d’Horlogerie Cluses Haute-Savoie and trained as a maker of timepieces. Edmond Veyret died in 1954 in Lyon.
The former royal (later national watch- and clockmaking school today called itself Charles Poncet School and was founded in 1848 to advance and drive the economic development in the Arve Valley, the town of Cluses and not least in the whole Haute-Savoie region. The original royal school was modelled on the school in Geneva, whose first director was French maker Achille Benoit.
