A remarkably decorated, French verge pocket watch á quatre couleurs with corresponding costly decorated gold chatelaine à quatre couleurs with key and fine signet with carneol and portrait of a Greek philosopher, circa 1780.
22-Carat gold case with four-colour à quatre couleurs, a chased and engraved decoration, and case maker’s punch mark SDB. The eye-catching “à quatre couleurs” harvest theme on the backside shows vegetables/fruits basket with rake, scythe and straw hat. White enamel dial with Roman numerals for hours and Arabic for minutes, and gold hands. Full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, two barrels, and three-arm steel balance. The à quatre couleurs gold chatelaine with key and signet with carneol and portrait of the Greek statesman and general Perikles complements the ensemble. Chatelaines of solid gold are very hard to find.
