Large shell-shaped watch by Melchior Adan (or Adam)

A French silver and rock crystal shell-shaped verge pendant watch, circa 1620. Brass shell-shaped full plate movement with verge escapement. Silver dial with grotesque engraved decoration, central chapter ring with inlaid Roman numerals, engraved landscape in the centre and single iron hand. Silver case with engraved frame and hinged and grooved rock crystal to both sides. This timepiece was crafted by the renowned watchmaker Melchior Adan (or Adam) around 1610. The movement bears the signature of the master himself, reading Melchior Adan.
