Gold open faced cylinder watch
–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch from the mid to late 19th century. This timepiece has a mechanical movement with cylinder escapement and key winding and setting system via its metal cuvette. The multitier guilloché gilt dial features a finely engraved floral centre with radiating sunburst texturing, a matte chapter ring with black Roman numeral hour markers, and a distinct dot indexed outer minute track, paired with delicate blued steel hands. The 18 carat yellow gold case is decorated with a chased frame, flowers, and foliage on an engine turned guilloché background. The interior has a double metal bowl engraved with Echappement à Cylindre, Quatre Trous en Rubis. The case bears the French Chimera hallmark, indicating production or assay between 1838 and 1893.
