An impressive Swiss 18 carat yellow gold double faced keyless pocket watch with a triple calendar, circa 1880. Made for the American market. A heavy case with hinged bezels on both sides and a band engraved with a repeated pattern, an engraved front and an engine turned on both sides. Silver dial, radial Roman hour numerals, an outer dot minute track, subsidiary seconds, the center and outermost border decorated with applied varicoloured gold matte floral motifs and blued steel spade hands. A white enamel dial on the reverse with two subsidiary dials for days of the week and months, an outermost track for the date and gold hands. Gilt movement, 19 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring and index regulator. Case numbered.
