Rare marine chronometer in a mahogany wooden box
–
A rare and historically important German naval chronometer, this wartime “Version B” marine timekeeper was produced by A. Lange & Söhne during the final months of World War II in Glashütte near Dresden, circa 1945. Housed in a robust, black Bakelite case, the chronometer is mounted in its original gimballed wooden box, complete with wooden carrying handles for ease of transport. The gimbal system ensured the timepiece remained level, maintaining accuracy even in rough maritime conditions. The original numbered dial bears the rare “B” designation, marking it as a military issue deck chronometer and features Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and blackened hands, true to its military styling. At its heart lies a precision movement with a chronometer grade anker escapement developed by A. Lange & Söhne.
The dial is signed.

The extract from the archives confirms the originality of the watch and its delivery to the naval division of the Soviet army in 1945. Only 246 of these chronometers with this caliber were made by A. Lange & Söhne until the end of the Second World War in 1945.
