Unusual heavy watch for the American market
–
An unusual, heavy pivoted detent chronometer made for the American market, in Germany, circa 1880. The numbered case of this watch was crafted from coin silver had a curved outer hinge and is engraved on both lids. The white enamel has Arabic five minute- and Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. The numbered movement is marked “Chronometre”, has a Swiss pivoted detent chronometer escapement, a helical hairspring and screwed gold chatons.
The box is signed.
