An extraordinary, very rare and early German/Danish silver pair cased repoussé verge pocket watch, circa 1720. Fire-gilt verge movement with exceptional pillars, early cock with grotesque face. Original white enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, gilt hands. The outer case with exceptional repoussé work in Rococo design, plain inner case, maker’s mark SP. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.

The watchmaker Ernst Nicolai Ziegenhirt became 1st master of watchmaking in Copenhagen in 1725. He was originally from Uelzen, North Germany, listed from 1692.
