A rare and early splendour half-hunting cased German pocket watch by A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte, made in quality 1A, circa 1883, and sold to Charles William Schumann in New York in 1883.
Extremely rare decorated, 18K gold half-hunting case in extremely rare size, so-called Burschenuhr, with enamelled numerals, engraved monogram, and case punch CWS. Signed enamel dial in perfect condition with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and blued steel hands. Very early A. Lange & Söhne precision lever movement, 1A quality, gold lever, gold escape wheel, screwed gold chatons, diamond endstone, signed and numbered plate. Case and movement with matching number.
