Gold hunting cased watch with certificate and presentation box
–
A fine German gold hunting cased minute repeating keyless Glashütte lever watch with certificate and presentation box, made by A. Lange & Söhne, circa 1883. The watch has an 18”’calibre, 41, gilded frosted ¾ plate movement featuring a gold lever and escape wheel, a bimetallic compensation balance, 27 jewels, and a diamond endstone. It is signed A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte bei Dresden, with the number 16006. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, a sunken subsidiary seconds dial, and blued steel spade hands. The dial is also signed A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte B/Dresden, and is numbered in red 16006.
–
The watch is housed in an 18 carat gold Jurgens case with plain polished covers, a polished gold cuvette, and a repeating slide on the band. The case back and cuvette are numbered 16006. It comes with a leather covered A. Lange & Söhne presentation case, which includes a numbered certificate and a spare spring. Additionally, it is accompanied by a certificate of origin from the Deutsches Uhrenmuseum, Glashütte, confirming the date of sale on 11 February 1883 to Comp. Dürrstein & Co., Dresden, for 1,080 Marks.

Created in 1883, this piece is the fourth recorded minute repeater produced by A. Lange & Söhne, as noted by Martin Huber in “Die Uhren von A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte Sachsen” (1977, p. 178). The production of minute repeaters spanned from 1880 to 1939. These mechanisms are considered the most sophisticated among striking watches, allowing users to determine the time without looking at the dial. By operating a slide on the watch’s case band, it audibly strikes the time to the nearest minute.
–
The movement is running smoothly. The ticking is loud and clear, but occasionally, the quarters are not audible; however, the minutes remain in sync. The hands are setting smoothly. The dial has a few minor scratches. The case shows signs of polishing with some light scuffs.

Signed: A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte B/Dresden
