Silver pocket watch with 24 hour dial

One of only two known precision pocket watches with a 24 hour dial, made by  Emil Reichard at the German watchmaking school in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1928. The watch has a plain full hunter case made of 900 silver with gold hinges, is hallmarked K. Richter (case maker of the German Watchmaking School Glashütte). The white enamel dial has a 24 hour outer ring with Arabic numerals, a subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock for the seconds and Breguet gold hands. The movement has a Glashütte precision lever escapement with a quality 1A rating, a gold lever, a gold escapement wheel, fine adjustment and screwed gold chatons.
Dial and movement are signed, the latter with Emil Reichard 1928.

The watch is an absolute rarity for Glashütte collectors. Only two pocket watches with a 24 hour dial were made at the German watchmaking school in Glashütte. The watchmaker Emil Reichard from Wesermünde attended the German watchmaking school in Glashütte from 1926 to 1929. His great talent was evident from the start so that in 1928 he was awarded the tuition exemption from the Georg Jacob Jubilee Foundation – a great honor “since it is only given to well qualified students or members of the subject who justify the hope that they will one day become valuable workers in the watchmaking trade”. The signatures of the great Glashütte teachers Helwig, Giebel and Rommershausen are on the original certificate with very good grades. Regarding the practical work, the following is stated:

“Apart from the usual course work, he made himself from the raw parts: 1 anchor escapement model No. 3439, […], 1 Glashütte anchor watch No. 3492 […], 1 table chronometer No. 3605 size 53 mm with two barrel drive & spring gear.”
