Gold open faced cylinder pocket watch

A rare German thin 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating key wind gentleman’s pocket watch made by Friedrich Gutkaes in Dresden, circa 1820. The case has an engine turned back with a vacant cartouche in the lower part, engine turned bezels and a plain pendant and bow. The gold dial has black inlaid Roman hour numerals, outer minute divisions, an engine turned center, engine turned auxiliary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The frosted gilt bridge movement is fitted with a cylinder escapement, flying barrel, ring balance, shock protection, temperature compensated balance spring, two hammers and two gongs.
