Gold self-winding full hunter by Lange & Söhne

A fine and extremely rare, German 18 carat pink gold hunting cased self-winding watch with a 30-hour power reserve indication, circa 1898. Sold on the 24 June 1898 for 693 Marks.
Lange & Söhne precision lever movement, gold lever, gold escape wheel, very rare automatic self-winding mechanism with the platinum weight pivoted on the edge of the back plate and oscillating between the plates, registered design 8972. White enamel dial with black Arabic hours and red Arabic five minutes, subsidiary seconds, original gold hands, and power reserve indication. Polished 18K gold case. Dial signed, case numbered, movement signed and numbered.

Adolph Ferdinand Lange (1815-1875)was born in Dresden on February 18, 1815. He received his early training there and was later taught at the Dresden Polytechnic School. He went to Paris and was employed from 1840 to 1845 by the celebrated chronometer maker J. T. Winnerl (1799- 1886). Lange introduced the metric system at the outset. He was also mayor of Glashütte from 1855 to 1867 and served as an elected member of the parliament of the kingdom of Saxony.
