Silver lever watch with florally decorated cuvette

A hunting cased anker chronometer pocket watch made by Strasser & Rohde in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1880. The case of this watch was crafted from silver and has gold hinges, a florally decorated cuvette marked Chronometer Glashütte and the maker’s mark MG. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel spade hands. The numbered movement has a best quality 1A anker chronometer escapement, a chronometer balance, gold lever and gold escape wheel.
The movement is signed.

The watch presented here is probably the only known Glashütte pocket chronometer by this important Glashütte manufacturer, thus a collector’s item.

Strasser & Rohde
Strasser & Rohde, founded in Glashütte in 1875 by Ludwig Strasser and Gustav Rohde, were known for producing precision pendulum watches. They also manufactured a range of other precision instruments, including taximeters, speedometers, adding machines and measuring instruments. One of their key innovations was the free spring detent escapement.
