Silver heavy pocket watch by Wilhelm Hammerle

A German heavy, large Glashütte graduate’s work – a masterpiece of Wilhelm Hammerle, manufactured in quality 1A – with a certificate from the watch museum Glashütte and a copy of the list of students and the graduation certificate of the watchmaker dating from 1904.
An outstanding quality graduation piece from the Deutsche Uhrmacherschule Glashütte school, in a heavy silver case by case maker Max Gutkaes.
Silver case;  white enamel dial with black Arabic hours and red Arabic minutes; blued steel hands and countersunk dial for the seconds; 3/4 plate movement and gold screw compensation balance. The dial and movement are both signed.

Wilhelm Hammerle, born 1884/6/3, trained at the German watchmaking school in Glashütte from 1903 to 1904. He lived at Markt 16 in Lingen an der Ems and was listed there in the records until 1954. Hammerle was a member of the Saxonia fraternity.

Max Gutkaes was born on July 7, 1861. He lived at Bahnhofstrasse 17 in Glashütte (in 1920). Gutkaes was apprenticed with company A. Lange & Söhne, before he established his workshop for producing pocket watch cases in 1889. He supplied A. Lange & Söhne and Richard Gläser with his cases. Gutkaes was married to Anna Marie Gutkaes, born on August 30, 1868. He retired in 1933 and died in 1945.
