A fine and rare Swiss gold and enamel pair cased cylinder watch made for the Turkish market, circa 1830, gilt cylinder movement, transparent cuvette.
White enamel dial with Turkish numerals, inner case numbered with maker’s mark DJ, red green, and white enamel pendant, inner case back with a painted polychrome enamel scene of Topkapi Palace over engine-turning, framed by red translucent enamel and outer pink enamel heightened with fold, blue and green enamel, similarly decorated to the bezel, outer case with a translucent red enamel with polychrome roses and scrolls, bezels front and back on green enamel with red and pink floral ornaments.

The Topkapı Palace was the official and primary residence in the city of the Ottoman Sultans for 400 years of their 624-year reign, from 1465 to 1856. The palace was a setting for state occasions and royal entertainments, containing the most holy relics of the Muslim world such as the Prophet Muhammed’s cloak and sword.
