The carrousel watch is almost exclusively produced with lever escapement. This watch is possibly one of four chronometer escapements in a series starting with the number 239 made by Smith. Bahn Bonniksen of Coventry invented the carrousel watch and patented the device in 1892. Like the tourbillon devised by A.L. Breguet, the carrousel has a revolving escapement. The primary difference between the tourbillon and the carrousel is that the carrousel escapement is driven by the train, independent of the carriage/platform. This allows for a simpler solution for the correction of positional errors.
