With a certificate of origin and guarantee, a letter from Patek Philippe dated November 6, 1959, confirms that the present watch was sold on June 9, 1910, to Mr. J. RESCH, representative of Patek Philippe in Bucharest. This watch was sold around 1959 by a Patek Philippe connoisseur and has been kept in the owner’s family since its purchase.

The movement is ticking. The dial is in good condition, well preserved. The original glass is missing, replaced with plexiglass protection. The original dial is well preserved. The leather presentation case from the period is also well preserved.

This watch, engraved with the monogram EE surmounted by a royal crown, was undoubtedly intended for a member of the Romanian royal family during the reign of Carol I. The typewritten letter accompanying this watch, signed by the hand of Mr. Henri Stern, reveals that the PATEK, PHILIPPE No. 144147 watch you possess was sold on June 9, 1910, to Mr. J. Resch, who was at the time our representative in Bucharest, for the sum of 410 francs (wholesale price). The franc at that time was the Gold Fr. Mr. Stern confirms that the engravings were indeed made by the Patek workshops, but he is unable to say for whom this piece was intended. Patek Philippe has been the watchmaker to many royal families in Europe since the famous World’s Fair at the Crystal Palace in London, where Queen Victoria purchased a watch that is now part of the Patek Philippe Museum’s collection.
