Rare open faced chronodrometer sporting watch by Appleton, Tracy & Co.

A rare and early American silver open faced key wound chronodrometer sporting watch with quarter jumping seconds, circa 1859. Full plate gilt finished lever movement, steel three armed balance, blue steel flat balance spring, engraved cock balance. Silver cuvette. White enamel dial, small subsidiary dial with Roman numerals for hours and minutes, subsidiary quarter jump seconds at the 6 o’clock and outer calibrated seconds ring with Arabic numerals designed for one revolution in four minutes. Engraved AM Watch Co., Waltham, Mass case, button in the coin edge band for starting and stopping seconds hands, hinged back. Case signed and numbered K104, cuvette numbered TT 63, dial and movement signed.
