Watches made by Patek Philippe for the Brazilian firm Gondolo & Labouriau in Rio de Janeiro are prized as some of the best examples of high-quality watches from the turn of the last century. ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ watches were made especially for the Brazilian retailers who were important in the market from the 1870s.
–
From 1902 Patek Philippe produced the high-quality calibre called ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ exclusively for Gondolo & Labouriau. These watches are characterized by movements bearing cam-wheel regulators and 9 carat gold gear train wheels. For nearly 30 years of the two firm’s partnership, Gondolo & Labouriau retailed close to a third of the entire production of Patek Philippe watches.
