French gilt metal and crystal cruciform watch Circa 1640

A French gilt metal and crystal cruciform watch, circa. Gilt metal cruciform movement. Silver chapter ring with single hand, Roman numerals, inner ring calibrated in Arabic numerals 13 to 24, the chapter ring centered by an engraved townscape, the surround engraved with florettes, scrolls and an exotic bird. All revealed through a rock crystal case, gilt metal bud form pendant, the base with gilt metal turned finial. Backplate bearing the signature ‘Sermand’.
