An English 18 carat gold open faced chronometer with tourbillon, Hallmarked London 1914. Gilt half plate movement, 20 jewels, freesprung guillaume balance, one minute tourbillon carriage with polished three armed carriage. Glazed cuvette. White enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer minute divisions and subsidiary seconds. Polished case. Movement signed, dial numbered. Case maker’s mark F.T. for Frederick Thoms.

This watch was awarded a class A certificate by the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex. It was prepared and submitted to the N.P.L. by John Francis Cole of Usher & Cole ten years after it was made. Usher & Cole were later sold to Camerer Cuss & Co in 1955. During the trial the watch was accredited as especially good in 1914, with a total of 86.9 marks, passing with superior merit. Extract from the results of the rating trial from March 2 to April 15 1914.
