An important and rare Swiss 18 carat gold perpetual calendar minute repeating open faced pocket watch with moon phases, circa 1913. Nickel lever Extra movement, 33 jewels, some in screwed gold chatons, bimetallic balance, repeating on two gongs. 18 Carat gold-hinged cuvette. White enamel dial, painted Breguet numerals, subsidiary dials indicating the month and date combined with seconds, day and fan form aperture displaying moon phases. Plain case, minute repeating slide to the band, hidden hinge. Case, dial, movement and cuvette signed. With an Extract from the Archives confirming the sale on 8 December 1917.

This watch example exemplifies the finest of watchmaking in the early part of the twentieth century. Its movement was completed in 1913, and its sale is recorded in 1917, situated within the years of World War I. Despite the international turmoil, Patek Philippe created some of the finest complicated pocket watches.

The present watch features an extremely high-quality ‘Extra’ movement equipped with a perpetual calendar and minute repeating complications, a century-old technical wonder. The white enamel dial is free of any hairline cracks and wonderfully preserved. The case is heavy and substantial and features a concealed hinge to the reverse, visually creating an unbroken line.
