Silver pair cased verge pocket watch
–
A pocket watch bearing a signature for Daniel Quare, London, circa 1695.
The gilt full plate single fusee verge movement with four Egyptian pillars, three-arm steel balance, the backplate with fine symmetrical foliate scroll pierced and engraved balance cock flanked by silvered regulation disc.
The pillar-plate fitted with circular silver champleve dial with signature cartouche, engraved Quare London, Roman numeral chapter ring, Arabic cartouche five-minute numerals to outer track, beetle and poker hands, and an outer case decorated with pique work scroll designs into leather-covered brass.
–
Signed: Quare London
–
Although finely made this was probably produced on the Continent, perhaps Switzerland or Holland very much copying the English style and engraved with Quare’s signature to give the impression that it originated from one of the most famous makers.
Signed: Quare London
