Gold and enamel verge watch with chain

A French verge pocket watch in a fine gold and enamel case with key and original gold chain, circa 1770. Keywind verge movement. Pierced and engraved cock with polished steel coqueret, silver regulator disc, blue steel indicator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed white enamel dial: Gudin à Paris with Roman and Arabic numerals, stone set silver metal hands. Fine gold and enamel open face case. The back with a large oval miniature of a young lady in classical dressed. Around this, a border of green translucent enamel on the outside overlaid with stones in a pierced white metal setting.
Gold pendant and bow. Wound through the white enamel dial.

Jacques Jérôme (also Gérante) Gudin was born in 1732 in Paris as the son of Jacques Gudin and Henriette Le Noir. She was a daughter of jeweler Pierre Le Noir and sister of Jean-Pierre Le Noir. He became a master watchmaker on May 12, 1762. Jacques Jérôme signed his watches with “Gudin fils” and “Gudin”. He worked for several years with Jean Baptiste André Furet (Furet). He married in 1755 Geneviève-Victoire Marteau ,. Daughter of the goldsmith Jean Marteau. Jacques Jérôme Gudin died in 1789.
