Gold verge with the portrait of a young lady

A fine French, 18K varicoloured gold, painted on enamel and paste-set pocket watch with a gold key on a short gold chain, circa 1770. The back is decorated with a painted enamel portrait of a young lady beneath a paste-set coronet, applied varicoloured gold border of flowers and foliage. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and large Arabic five-minute numerals, winding aperture at 2 o’clock. Fancy paste-set hands.

A hinged gilt brass, full plate movement, fusee with chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, pierced and foliate chased continental type balance cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed.
