Gold quarter repeating lever pocket watch

A fine and exceptional English, 18K gold, quarter repeating, keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1870. Rhodium-plated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, movement is of the highest standards with wolf-tooth winding gears, fully jewelled movement and faceted hammers.
A polished and enamelled case to both sides. The 18 carat gold hunter case has two deep blue enamel engravings. One side shows a figure with the Latin line; Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Protest (The brave may fall but cannot yield).
The backside of the watch shows a stunning monogram with the letters M G C W.
Repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Cuvette signed.
