An unusual and fine Swiss 14 carat yellow gold purse watch made by Corum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1960. The rectangular textured case with a long end opening to reveal the spring loaded dial. Concealed fold-out silvered dial with painted baton hour indexes and yellow gold hands. Movement with 17 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, monometallic compensation balance, blued steel flat balance spring, shock absorber and micrometre regulator. Dial, case and movement signed.

In 1955, Corum was founded by René Bannwart and Simone Ries in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. They are known for their unusual design ideas, only make high-end timepieces and specialized in extravagant mechanical and quartz wristwatches. Among others, the company sourced its movements from ETA SA Swiss Watch Manufacturer in Grenchen and Frédéric Piguet in Le Brassus en Le Sentier, until the latter was fully integrated into Manufacture Blancpain and became Corum’s exclusive supplier.
