Gold open faced keyless calendar watch
–
A fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced calendar pocket watch made by Le Phare, circa 1920. It has a mechanical crown winding movement with a lever escapement, protected by a fitted plexiglass cover. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer railway minute track with gold Arabic five minute markers, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, gold scroll decorated hands, and rectangular apertures for the day of the week and month. A central register indicates the date. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case. It features a polished exterior and a double back inner gold cuvette engraved with the maker’s historical trademark slogan, viam temporis illumino.
