Building on its reputation as a watchmaker of complicated and precise timepieces, Vacheron Constantin launched a series of chronometer watches in 1907 called Chronomètre Royal. The name was registered as a trademark on May 28, 1907, and translated into English on May 8, 1908, as Royal Chronometer. The principle was simple: a precision instrument for everyday use with a highly legible dial. This technical watch featured a simple, unfinished gold movement, as shown in our example. The model remained in production until the 1930s and was adapted to a wristwatch in 1958.
