A very fine and very rare English, half-quarter repeating, a keyless pocket watch with day, date, and Nicole Nielsen patent winding, circa 1873. retailed by John Walker, 63 New Bond Street, 68, Cornhill, 230 Regent Street & 76, Strand, London. The case with London hallmarks for 1873-1874. A polished case, white enamel dial by Willis, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials for the seconds, date and days of the week. Blued steel spade hands.

A frosted gilt three-quarter plate movement, Nicole Nielsen patent winding and hand-setting, jewelled to the third, lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Dial and movement signed by the retailer, case punched with Adolphe Nicole’s master mark.
