A fine Swiss silver open faced manual wind Art Nouveau pocket watch with retrograde time indication, jumping hours and minutes, circa 1910. The niëllo fan shaped case with a monogram on the back, the bezel on the front is decorated to match. White enamel dial with black Arabic retrograde hours from 0 to 12, black Arabic retrograde minutes from 0 to 60 above, the quarter hours in red and blued spade hands. A frosted gilt fan shaped movement with screw compensation balance. Dial and movement signed, the case with maker’s mark.

This type of watch is based on Swiss patent No. 27.961, which Giovanni Sgherlino from Turin received on April 9, 1903. A group of watchmakers and dealers from Tramelan and Tavannes took an interest in the unusual design and registered the Record Watch Co. S.A. on December 16, 1903. The new company was based in Tramelan.
