A Swiss niëllo silver open faced fan shaped Art Nouveau pocket watch with retrograde time indication, circa 1910. A niëllo decorated case with stripes, monogrammed on the back. White enamel dial with black Arabic retrograde hours 0 to 12, red and black Arabic retrograde minutes 0 to 60 and gold spade hands. Frosted gilt fan shaped movement, inscribed Brevet 27961, with screw compensation balance. Dial, cuvette and movement signed.

This type of watch is based on Swiss patent No. 27.961, which Giovanni Sgherlino from Turin received on April 9, 1903. A group of watchmakers and dealers from Tramelan and Tavannes took an interest in the unusual design and registered the Record Watch Co. S.A. on December 16, 1903. The new company was based in Tramelan.
