An early automatic Swiss gentleman’s pocket watch with early oscillating weight winding movement, regulator dial and centre seconds, circa 1810.
This watch has an 18 Carat rose gold, polished case with case maker’s punch mark JJ. A regulator, enamel dial with radial Roman hours on the enamel chapter ring, centre seconds, indicator at 12, and gold Breguet hands. And a fire gilt, frosted, oscillating weight winding movement with ring balance and cylinder escapement.

Moyse Gevril (Moÿse – Gevrille) was born in 1749 in Le Locle as the son of Jacques Gevril. He lived in Crêt Vaillant near Le Locle and became a master watchmaker in 1784; Gevril created pocket watches with an automatic winding mechanism by an oscillating weight. e supplied watches to Ph. Du Bois & Fils and is recorded in their archives as having delivered 18 timekeepers, most likely with automatic winding systems. Moyse Gevril founded the company Moyse Gevril & Fils and died around 1791.
