This is the high end of what used to be called a gentleman’s dress watch, a watch he would wear with his three-piece suit in a special watch pocket in his vest. The dial is what was called “hard baked,” that is, first engraved, then the engravings were filled with enamel and fired, after which all would be polished. The gold protection screw in the movement is to prevent excessive pressure on the back which, without it, might have exerted risky pressure on the balance.
