A decorative Swiss paste set open faced Directoire enamel verge pocket watch, circa 1790.
The gilt case with paste-set bezels has an opaque polychrome enamelled back panel decorated with a very fine portrait of a young woman holding brushes and a colour palette in her hands, on a cobalt blue translucent ground over engine-turning; a flower paillon border set with ornamental stones, and case maker signature Leton. It has a signed enamel dial with Arabic numerals and paste-set Directoire hands. And the signed, keywind, fire gilt, fine full plate movement has chain/fusee, a three-arm brass balance, and an engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.

Lorimier, François-Louis, 
According to some sources, François-Louis Lorimier was a son of Jean Jaques Lorimier possibly the locksmith who was born in Coffrane in 1735. François-Louis was born in Vilars and was possibly then the older brother of Jean-Jacques Lorimier, Jean-Jacques Lorimier Charles Lorimier , Jacques Louis Lorimier and Jacques David-François.
François-Louis Lorimier worked for Samuel Roy in Fontaines at La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1782 to 1783, then for Jeara-David Maillardet in Geneva and then in Paris until 1786.

This clock is about one clock from Reimirol, an inverted version of the name Lorimier. Genealogical research shows that the name Remirol does not exist as a surname at all. Lorimier is a watchmaker family from Vilars-Engollon-Fontaines, a small town between Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Change of name can also be seen at watchmakers from Friedberg such as Johann Heckel and at Enicar founded by Ariste Racine-Blatt. It is possible that this watch was made by François-Louis Lorimier because she was also active in Geneva.
