A Swiss, exceptionally finely crafted gold and enamel form watch with oriental pearls and a visible balance wheel, The Mandolin, attributed to Les Freres Raffard (Geneva), circa 1810.
Gold and enamel case, extremely elaborate, multi-coloured and set with half oriental pearls (some are missing), view of the balance wheel from the front, the case can be opened. Hidden enamel dial, very nice state of preservation, Breguet-style radial hours, outer minutes track with Arabic fifteen minutes numerals and red gold Pointer hands. Unsigned full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance.

There are several varieties of these mandolins. The present example is particularly elaborately designed and is attributed to the company Les Frères Raffard in Geneva due to the quality and the details.
